![]() Patrik from Stockholm, Sweden. Your first sneakers? My mom bought me my first pair of sneakers and I got exactly what I wanted: dark blue Panthers with light blue stripes. They were the coolest thing around back when I was ten. I felt great and I kept them neat and clean. Have you always been a freak for sneakers? Yeah. I was always known in my neighbourhood for keeping track of who wore what on their feet. I remember once me and my friends were jumped by a gang of older, bigger guys. They beat us down but after the fight people still asked me what sneakers the biggest one was wearing. And they were really surprised I hadn't noticed. Your top sneaker of all time? It's hard to choose because there are so many great sneakers. I like the Nike Air Max line. Especially the Air Max Triax. The shape of the sneaker is very important to me. I like my sneakers well proportioned. Space-ship-type-sneakers look pretty ridiculous, but there are always exceptions to the rule. I like them white, that's very important. I hate this new trend with giant logos all over the shoe. How do you keep them clean? First I use only a white cloth. If that's not enough I use the cloth with cold water and as a last resort, cold water and soap. I also impregnate all my sneakers a lot. I'm on the balcony for an hour with my spray can and sneakers and it makes me feel great even though I put way too much on. What else? Lacing. It is very, very important. I think it's scandalous the way people lace their sneakers. Good lacing can really boost a sneaker, bad lacing can destroy the best sneaker in the world. First of all the laces must never be twisted and not too tight or too loose. Also, your sneakers will last longer if you lace them right. I don't like fat laces or colored laces. You're not supposed to jazz your sneakers up. I have never used round laces but they seem pretty practical because there's no way of twisting them so that takes care of that problem. But flat laces are still the best. How do you shop for sneakers? If they look OK on the shelf I will pick them up and stick my hand inside to get a feel for them. If I still like them I will try them on. It's hard though because they always lace them wrong in the shop. That really makes me sick. Do you save old sneakers after you wear them out? Not really. Before, every time I found a new pair of sneakers it was like falling love. I would be like: "I'm gonna take care of these sneakers like a baby and wear them forever". But now, I've realized that there are no "world's best sneakers ever", that after a year I will always find a new pair and fall in love all over again. And that is a great feeling.
