Justin Loretz, sneaker- and mountain biking-freak from the UK enjoyed being sponsored by Nike. You can read his column in Mountain Biking UK.

Your first sneakers?
All white Adidas Stan Smiths. My mum bought them for me, she liked them because they were plain and hopefully I couldn't complain about a naff colour or logo because there were none.I still have a soft spot for these puppies (as well as the Adidas Ille Nastase which I never owned because they were only available in France but I used to see regularly on the feet of visiting French exchange students. They looked especially cool when they had been worn a bit and were slightly stained orange from use on French cinder covered tennis courts)

Where do you shop for sneakers?
ath, London, Bristol, where ever. When i go abroad I only ever look for sneaker shops and bike shops.

Justin's first love -- Adidas Stans Smiths.

Why are sneakers important?
Sneakers are an excellent way of expressing yourself, much like a tatoo or piercing they make a statement to the world, or who ever cares to look. What makes them better than piercings or tatoos is the fact that you can change your mind as you get older/wiser/richer. Like new socks they are a cheap way to turn your life around, you can have the shittiest week in your memory and then find a new sneaker that lights your fire, for a small outlay (in the grand scheme of things) you can pop them on your feet and walk about feeling like the king. Sneakers are an integral part of modern life, people shouldn't be so blinkered when they meet a sneaker addict.

Your best sneaker story?
Getting sponsored by Nike and just having to phone them for new shoes. Although it wasn't shoes i did get my own Nike downhill mountain bike racing suits hand made by Nike with my name all over the back and best of all with my own name embroidered by Nike on the Nike label inside the collar. I'll always have them as memories.

Top sneaker of all time
The Jordan Mk4 was (is) the best sneaker of all time. It was chunky without looking bulky yet was athletic lokking enough not to look out of place playing almost any sport. It was also a killer looking casual shoe, it was just the right height which made it look good with Levis in the winter and shorts in the summer. I was a shoe for life, not just for christmas. I wore mine till they were dead, i revived them with shoe goo, performed complicated open lace surgery to try and prolong their life. They eventually passed away but I still kept them in their box wrapped up like an Egyptian mummy.Come on Nike, make me a happy man and re-issue an old friend.

How many
I currently have twenty pairs of sneakers.

How do you clean your sneaks?
With the love, care and attention most people reserve for new born babies.

Inspired by Ferrari, the Air Jordan XIV.

Sneakers you are most looking forward to?
I've not liked many of the recent Jordans but I saw the Ferrari 355 inspired Jordan in Slam magazine and that made my palms a bit sweaty.
