The Nike Cortez is probably the most brilliant shoe ever made. I have had many, many pairs in different colors since I bought my first pair in 1985. You can get the remake in any color imaginable but I prefer the black on white although white on black nylon and leather and black on black leather is nice too. I also have white on red, white on blue, white on black (but I hate that one) and I just like them a lot.They are very simple and clean cut without being boring and they go with everything. Hanging on to your first favourites can be hard though, when they become too popular. Over the past decade, the Cortez has become so incredibly over-used, with new colors coming out, it seems, every week, my numerous pairs have lately stayed in the closet.

The Nike Cortez was originally designed in 1966 by Bill Bowerman, head track coach at the university of Oregon, for another brand of sneakers. If you buy a pair, you won't be sorry. They are naturally very popular all over the planet but, as I discovered a few years ago, I think most popular with gang members in East Los Angeles.
